Adi Shankaracharya realized the womens devotion irrespective of being poor. He immediately started singing twenty one slokas praising Goddess Mahalakshmi , praying her to bless the poor women by driving her poverty and grant her riches. It is called Kanakadhara because when Adi Shankaracharya recited it, the Goddess Lakshmi created a shower of golden fruit.
The slokas contain a description of the beauty, personality, power and graciousness of Goddess Lakshmi.
